“Fuse board” and “consumer unit” are often used for the same part of the electrical installation. If you have an older board or are planning changes to your home, we can assess whether an upgrade is appropriate and explain the options in plain language.
An older board, limited space for additional circuits or concerns raised during previous electrical work are reasons to request an assessment. Appearance or age alone cannot establish the condition of the whole installation. Tell us what prompted your enquiry and share any existing inspection findings.
Protection has to suit the circuits it serves. We look at the installation and any planned additions before recommending changes. Repeated tripping should be investigated rather than assuming that a replacement board will solve it.
For a planned board change, our consumer unit replacement page explains assessment, installation and handover. If you are unsure what you have, send a photograph taken with the cover closed. We can discuss whether to arrange an assessment or start with fault finding.
The terms often describe the same job. This page helps you understand the options; our replacement service page explains the installation process.
An external photo is a useful starting point, but it does not replace an assessment or testing of the installation.
